Cars

August 31st, 2019

The last practice session was held this morning. It has been marked by the crash of Lewis Hamilton at high speed, he was ok but the car has been really damaged. He didn’t manage to do a better performance than the two Ferraris (finishing 7th), neither him nor Bottas who got the 3rd fastest time. So, again, the two Ferraris topped the timesheet with Leclerc in front of Vettel.

The good surprise came from Daniel Ricciardo who finished 4th, under a second off Leclerc. Following, Max Verstappen finished 5th, Alex Albon 20th, preparing for his grid penalties. Pérez made a great performance again finishing in 6th place. The two Alfa Romeo were in the top ten with Raïkkönen finishing 8th and Giovinazzi in 9th place. Pierre Gasly finally seemed to find his marks in his new car, completing the top ten. The two Haas cars finished 11th and 13th. Sainz got the 14th time in front of his team mate Norris.

Following in the afternoon, the qualifying session! And Charles Leclerc took the pole in front of Vettel. Lewis Hamilton got his car ready for qualifying after his morning crash and got the 3rd place on the grid in front of Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen got the 5th place in front of his fans. Alex Albon qualified in 14th position but knowing he will get engine penalties. Daniel Ricciardo did a really great performance qualifying in 6th place, same for Hülkenberg following. Kimi Raïkkönen, Sergio Pérez and Kevin Magnussen completed the top 10. Kubica got an engine problem, so did Giovinazzi, they had to stop.

After the qualifying, Stroll, Albon and Kvyat will start from the back of the grid due to multiple power unit element changes. Hülkenberg, Ricciardo and Sainz drop five grid places for use of additional power unit elements. Kvyat is also penalised of five grid places for an unscheduled gearbox change. Kubica will race even if he failed to set a time in qualifying.
