What would be the best sales pitch for a iconic rally car? While you could go down the road of talking endlessly about its locking differentials and lightweight body, the best way to prove its rally-worthiness is by making a simple action packed video with the car proving its metal. And thats exactly what Cool & Vintage, a Portugal- based car dealer has done. The rally car in question… a legendary 1974 Ford Escort Mk1.
The car in question here is not just any ordinary Ford Escort. This 1974 Mk1 has been fully restored to an as-good-as-factory condition while adding quite a few go-fast bits to elate one’s driving experience. On the top, there is a lightweight Group 4 spec rally car body comprising of a fibreglass boot and bonnet where under the later lies a 2.0-litre FIA racing engine that produces a quite effective (as seen in the video) 206 horsepower. The engine is connected to the rear wheels via a ZF 5-speed manual transmission. And just to make things a bit more fun around turns, Cool & Vintage have provided a juicy hydraulic handbrake… which when used induces an incredible smile. The Bilstein coilovers ensure that everything else goes as planned.
Since Cool & Vintage is looking to sell this very 1974 Ford Escort Mk1, it won’t be reasonable to expect Ken Block -style action. But for what it’s worth, the video perfectly showcases some harmless fun that can be had in a shiny 135,000 Euro ($154,500) classic car.
