The car in question is a 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR. This car having VIN 9114609060 is among the only 39 cars that Porsche built in 1974. This 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR was bought by Max Moritz of Autohaus. Max raced this car with FotoQuelle backing and bright green livery, with Reinhard Stenzel in the driver’s seat. The car went racing for just over two years before max sold it to Rolf Göring in 1977.
It was Göring who gave the car its Group 5 bodywork and sloped nose. And it was a matter of time before this 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR decimated its competition in hillclimb racing. The car won 8 races, finished second in 4 races while also took a single third position, within a single year. The car was then sold to Willi Bartels in 1978 who took the car back to its original Group 4 bodywork. Undr the new owners the car kept performing splendidly in Hillclimb races. In the 80s this 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR continued racing at Hong Kong and competed in Viceroy colours. It was then time for another ownership change and the car landed at California under Larry and Jan Grove.
Groves took pains to understand the cars history and restored the car in 1991 after two years of hard work on it. This full factory spec fully restored 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR then raced for next 15 years before groves handed over this gorgeous classic Porsche to Jim Edwards, who in turn passed it on to its current owner Tom Van Overbeek. The car went for its second complete restoration under this ownership in 2012. Even the original engine was made to go through a thorough rebuild but was preserved. Intead a new motor was build and installed in the car for historic races. Currently this stunning 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR is powered by a fuel-injected 3.4-litre unit based off of a 3.2 case and crank, 98mm Mahle cylinders and pistons, twin plug head and GE-80 cams alongwith a rebuild transmission and a new oil cooler.
