These days, out there on the roads, it’s nothing more common in sight than adventure bike. Sporting the best versatility of them all, these are machines that can chew up some serious distances while keeping you cosy on the saddle. In the ever-so growing market of adventure touring motorcycles, these are the ones that stand out for 2015.
The Ducati Multistrada is the tried and tested superbike-type category in advnenture tourers. With it’s best in class handling dynamics hitting the sweet spot between the open world of adventure touring on paved roads and a seldom off-roader. 2015 is the best the bike has been with upgraded Skyhook adjustable suspensions, better LED headlights, cornering ABS and multi-mode traction control, the Multistrada is the right tool to munch off the miles, in style, in comfort and with the most aggressive performing package of the lot. Great job Ducati, but watch out … the BMW S1000XR is coming.
We all know what this is going to be. Its a BMW ‘Sfreakin 1000RR’ engine, and if that has told us anything from the naked S1000R, then things are going to be pretty wild. While the overall power goes down to 160 bhp (the 2015 S1000RR pushes out almost 200bhp) to keep things a bit more civilised, it’s still going to be a very sharp and capable handler. To top that, the machine would be coming packed with BMW’s electronic systems that outclass every other maker’s by miles. Ducati’s 2016 Multistrada 1200 better watch out…
KTM 1290 Super Adventure:
It doesn’t get any bigger than this. The 2015 KTM 1290 Super Adventure is the largest displacement adventure bike that can be currently bought. Needless to say, but there is lots of power, and lots of torque popping out of that 75-degree, 1301 cc, V-twin everywhere. This here is the torque king of adventure touring. This is the machine that makes overtakes look like Captain Luc Picard’s order to take the Enterprise to warp speed. That said, the machine is not only about buckets of speed as it’s electronic wizzardry, while not the top-of-the-line, is still one of the best to be found on any adventure motorcycle.
Not only is the BMW R1200GS the top-most selling motorcycle for BMW, it is also the swiss army knife of adventure touring motorcycles. Every other motorcycle leans towards the properties of the BMW R1200GS, but none of them individually address to all the qualities of the GS with the same delightfulness. Even in it’s eleventh year of production, the motorcycle can still prove itself short on no fronts when needed. The electronics on the motorcycle are completely what are to be expected of a BMW. The GSs’ electronics are at the top of the line with safety as well as luxury features such as keyless ignition, and a quick shifter that aids in clutches shifts makes it the best equipped of the lot.
