The Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser has a legacy of its own, thats seconded by none. Its reputation and global acclaim set itself apart from everything else, even after its humble beginnings as a rural police vehicle. The FJ40 comes from a time when Land Rover and Toyota competed head to head, and the later came on top as the more ruggedly build, more reliable vehicle. The Toyota FJ40 had a shorter wheelbase than its British counterpart, meaning lower maintenance too.

This beautifully restored 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 comes from Miami-based Land Cruiser specialists FJ Company who received this particular single-owner car from Columbia. Since then, the car was put through rigorous restoration, only to match concours quality from the start, which is fully documented and photographed on the company’s website. Everything was de-rusted, treated with anti-corrosion primer and then powder coated, sealing the chassis and floor perfectly.

To give the finishing touches the car was then painted in Toyota’s factory Sky Blue paint with the factory hardtop finished in Cygnus White. Inside, the roll bar was repainted, the door panels, dash pads, and headliner were replaced, and the seats were re-upholstered in the correct grey material.  New windows were installed and new seals throughout were used.

Mechanically, the FJ40 has gone through a complete restoration of its 4.2-litre six-cylinder engine, four speed transmission and four-wheel drive system by using Toyota OEM parts where all they were available. The wiring harness was replaced with a new one and the suspensions were replaced by Old Man Emu units.

Its needless to say that this Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 as been rebuilt from ground up, with every tiny detail immaculately attended to with great care. The vehicle goes to sale at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction that is set to take place on January 28-29, 2016.
