The BMW R NineT has found a lot of love with the custom bike builders around the world, and Germany is happy about it. The motorcycle was launched for the exact same reason, and since its launch, there have been some crazy custom bikes based on the R NineT that have popped up on the radar all over the world.
The Revival Cycles “Bison” is one such machine. Revival Cycles, a Texas based firm received the motorcycle almost brand new with just 1200 kms on the odo. The owner was a computer programer who wanted the bike in a more elemental form than what the company provided, while it still suited full function of riding to work with his laptop and other gizmos.
While the bike looks quite stock-ish from a distance, the beauty of this build is in its fine details. The exhaust for instance, snakes up over the engine and curls from in-between the chassis on to the other side, where its is finished off with a custom silencer that features a Supertrapp-style adjustable baffled discs to change the backpressure.
For the owner to carry his laptop, the motorcycle is fitted with a custom-made pannier on the right, made from bison leather, matched with the similar material seat and houses a sturdy stainless steel frame inside for quick removal. The wheels are made by Kineo featuring spokes and are custom made for this particular machine.
To add some classic features to the machine, a cafe racer style fairing has been employed while the fuel tank gets a classic line running down its sides.
Yet, the most beautuful part of the entire job is the rear tailpiece section. The stock tail has been replaced by a custom made single-piece unit out of alloy, which neatly houses a single strip of LED light into it. This gives the bike a rather interesting overall outlook, retro from the front towards the centre, and futuristic as it moves towards the back.
And that is the whole beauty of the build. It understands the owner’s state of mind, providing subtle futuristic touches, while at the same time keeping faith in the retro design language. Might seem minimal, but the detailing and efforts gone done into this R NineT are simply amazing. It’s been transformed from being just a mere machine to a device carrying its rider’s soul.
