That one-of-a kind adventurous road trip on your Ducati Multistrada Enduro 1200.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip

With the financial year end just around the corner and pressures building up, it only gets to a point when you shun the world and its expectations of you and instead take to that gorgeous motorcycle parked in your garage and head out onto the nearest mountain roads and take in the sights of dear mother nature.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip

Starting from Pune and with only a weekend on hand before returning to the dreadful Monday meant, the getaway had to be some place not too far and easy to get, yet not boring and conventional. So first destination on cards was Dhom Dam lake, in Wai, Satara, which has been one place I have been dying to camp out at under the starlit sky. And what sweet hosts the Sahyadri Boating Club people. Set up a nice comfy tent and gave some sumptuous meals right besides the lake. And it was a full moon night. Just saying.

Just sitting next to that huge Ducati Multidtrada Enduro parked next to the lake, it appeared there is so much to see just around your own city if you can go beyond conventional commercialised spaces we all usually head to. Especially when you have a worhty companion like the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. Having unloaded all the luggage from the bike. the Enduro felt a lot lighter and nimbler around the off-road trails surrounding the lake.

Sunrise shenanigans. The morning day after was tad bit adventurous than the day before. By now with some decent miles under my belt on the Multistrada Enduro, it felt less intimidating or over-powering. Slowly we both warmed up to each other and then what followed was a delightful day of riding and exploring some amazing trails around Wai in Satara, Maharashtra.

Tailing the trails, the Enduro was at home despite it being shod with road rubber. Wonder what a hooligan this will be on these dirt roads with knobbies!

Crossing over the Sahyadri mountain ranges, there were plentiful of such sights that lured me to stop every now and then and just admire nature’s bounty and realise what I was missing out amidst the melee of work and routine and the the urban chaos. #MountainsOverMalls

And what better way to cross over the mountains than riding a gorgeous looking Ducati Multistrada Enduro flaunting its curves and tucking in its kitty a mighty 1200cc liquid-cooled V-Twin motor with gut wrenching torque! Highway hauls or tricky trails, this behemoth played perfect partner in crime for the weekend wandering.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip 8

From patches of broken and bumpy tarmac to no roads, it was simply a matter of standing on the footpegs and wringing the throttle as the Ducati Multistrada Enduro went flying over all kinds of terrains. With the ditches and bumps being least of my worries, I could focus on rather beautiful things around like the surrounding landscapes.

Some roads, now blocked by the authorities for vehicles to go, were still well within the realm of the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. Like outlaws we went riding up and down the mountain trails until one gentleman came about and requested us to stop sinning and go find a nice girl and get married and settle down. So we did just that. Got the rear wheel spinning and disappeared into a dust cloud. Like magic.

And so off we went and found some more roads and trails which were not blocked or cordoned off for us mango people. And as we went exploring, the sights only kept getting better and better. Coming out of some corners, the view up ahead was breath-taking and enamouring like no other. And only some 150-odd kilometres from Pune, Maharashtra. God knows what else I have missed so far in the thirty-something years of my life. Sigh.

Coming out of Satara, crossing over the lovely Mahabaleshwar ghats and landing up on the NH17 Mumbai to Goa highway at Poladpur, the next set of 50-60km entailed nothing but snaking roads of the Kashedi ghats winding down as we inched closer and closer to the sea, ofcourse at speeds that shall not be spoken about.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip 9

Crossing over from the Sahyadris, it was only natural to come out onto the other side of the Western Ghats leading to the Western coast. With the Multistrada’s mile-munching abilities on all sorts of terrain and an early morning start to the day meant I was onto the other side by noon and I could already smell the salty aromas of the seashore in the surrounding air. Thalassophile mode activated. Although what followed next was something I could not have imagined.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip 13

Wide and smoothly laid out, the Kashedi ghat on the Nh17 highway is one of the best riding roads, especially for the big daddy’s of the motorcycle world like the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. Back into the Sport mode after having spent all morning in the Enduro settings, the Multistrada felt instantly at home around these twisty roads. Calm and composed around the corners, the electronics doing their bit to keep the wheels on the ground, occasional bursts of power on corner exits meant a slight twitch on the rear wheel before the Ducati Traction Control intervened followed by a feeling of being fired from a human slingshot. Yeah, thats kind of how it feels with an eager right wrist complimenting the Sport mode.

Look at that rich tarmac gleaming in the sun. And this was at noon – hot and sweaty but that also means plentiful of traction and grip to really get the Ducati singing around these bends!

With my rather tiny frame, I could occasionally glance at the camera and pose. Clearly though I stood no chance to compete with the glam the Ducati Multistrada Enduro carries with its mean beak upfront and those LED lights. Hey! But doesn’t the moustache count for good looks?

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Roadtrip 15122112

Exiting the NH17 highway at Khed, we got onto the backroads that wind their way through small villages and huge farmlands around the Konkan belt before arriving at the Western coast of India near Dapoli, Maharashtra.

As we closed onto the coast, the humid air and smell of the sea had me on the Ducati Multistrada Enduro getting desperate and hasty and I could not wait to to set my eyes onto the beautifully vast and enamouring lure of the sea,  which was not too far away from us now.

And with that desperation, the speeds got a bit higher and the leans a bit, well closer to the ground. And all this while the Multistrada seemed to be at ease with its large TFT display staring into my face and I think it said, ‘Is that the best you got, mate?”

And at one point it happened. Coming over the mountain crest, the corner opened into the vast blue skies overlooking the Arabian Sea. A sight to behold indeed. I stopped and just sat there next to the motorcycle for the next hour or so and saw all the March-end worries march their way out and make way for the motorcycle memories.

A weekend well-spent would be a gross understatement here. A weekend like this is not spent but rather saved. More so treasured. Especially in the August company like a motorcycle. Well, not just any motorcycle – a Ducati.

As I prepare to take on the oncoming Monday, I am assured I wont be facing blues, but rather remembering them and smiling, even if its on my desk. Its just five days before next Saturday comes up!
