First of all, I want to wish all the readers a Happy New Year with the best for 2018. For my first post this year, I would like to share my experience as a co-driver in an Austin Healey at the “Journées Automobile Chapal“.
I met John Davies at the Journée Automobile last October when I was looking for a light and fast car with no roof so that I could take better photos of cars and people around me during the event. His Austin Healey 100/4 BN2 from 1956, which was the standard version of the race-inspired 100M turned out to be the perfect machine for the job. I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the overdrive on this model. Many Austin Healey cars were fitted with this feature, an electro-mechanical extra gear which can be engaged at the flick of a switch to aid lower rev cruising or to provide ‘additional’ ratios on 3rd and 4th gear in competition environments.
John is a very nice person, passionate about his car and about the motoring culture in general. He had the chance to run the Tour Auto 2015 with this Austin, a car completely restored for the occasion.
