Another bespoke Land Rover Defender build comes out to pay homage to the end of the icon’s production. This time, the bespoke Defender custom build in question is created in-house by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) in coordination with one of Land Rover’s special fans and life-long owner, Sir Paul Smith. This collaboration between the fashion designer and SVO has brought out a very flamboyant one-off custom vehicle in accord with the London Fashion Week.
For creating this vibrant custom Defender, Paul Smith gave the SVO team a specific set of pantone colour references which were then further mixed to created 27 colours that were used on the vehicle’s exterior. On the inside, the Landie gets a bespoke black leather with contrast blue stitching with lots of tailored touches throughout, such as the hand-painted bee on the roof that references to the countryside where the car’s actual heritage lies. More finishing touches can be seen in the interior, such as the traditional Land Rover Defender clock getting replaced by a Paul Smith fascia.
The Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations which is currently headed by Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern is a unique department that has been setup by the parent company to create special vehicles that are customised and created as per each individual’s personal taste.
