Mark Webber Drives Porsche 919 Le Mans Car Through London to Promote The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid
We had known that Porsche had some interesting plans of promoting the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. What we didn’t know was Mark Webber was going to be a part of it. The idea for the marketing stunt was simple, to let Mark drive his Le Mans Porsche 919 drive through London. Which though was only simple in Porsche way of things, driving a big bad Le Mans racer through narrow London streets is mostly unimaginable for mere mortals. Or maybe, Webber just wanted to visit London real bad and likes his Porsche 919 a lot, racers, you see. While Mark did London sightseeing, Le mans way, a Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid followed his (carbon) footprint.
Though the campaign was for the promotion of the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, Webber’s drive was a much more mundane monster. The Le Mans Porsche 919 produces 900bhp and Webber drove it around London’s Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, and London Eye. Though the whole crew was escorted by the London Police, it would have still been fun to have Webber come out and ask, “What happened to Le Mans mate? It seems narrower than usual or did I take a few Foster’s too many?”

As for the car this event was conducted, the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, it showcases Porsche engineering might once again. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid produces 462bhp and is powered by the same 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo motor from Panamera 4S. Though this time around the engine does Hybrid duty and is detuned to produce 330bhp. The engine is mated to a 136hp electric motor bringing the outputs to 462bhp along with 700Nm of peak torque. Porsche wanted to bring together two of its most advanced cars together for the occasion for a rare photo opportunity.

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is scheduled for its Global debut at the Paris Motor Show later this week. Thus Porsche is making sure that the world gets to know all about it through such events. In the video below, uploaded on Youtube by Horsepower Hunters, you can see both cars driving around London. You will also see how driving the Le Mans racer was a big pain for Webber through London. He can be seen stalling the car a number of times as he tried to maneuver through the city streets. However, Porsche got the shots it needed, so we can call it a win then.
