With a machine that is as aggressive and track-focused as the Ducati 1299 Panigale, the tyres are all there is between the rider and the road, and they have to be of the highest order to put the power down in the most effective manner.
Ducati has decided to go ahead with Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP as the stock tyre of choice for Ducati’s latest machine. The 1299 Panigale, 1299 Panigale S and the Panigale R would come with the hypersport tyres in 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear configurations.
Pirelli has gained a lot of experience by being the sole supplier of tyres to the World Superbike Championship since 2004, a period in which the manufacturer has garnered the right balance of transferring its racing knowhow to its road going tyres, and the Diablo Supercorsa SP stand as the top-of-the-line product in terms of performance tyres for the street. The tyres have the versatility to be capable for street riding, yet not loose out on grip while on the race track.
The 200/55 ZR17 Diablo Supercorsa SP uses a special bi-compound solution that permits both increased milage and more grip while leaning. Their EPT (Enhanced Patch Technology) has made it possible to use 23% more soft compound in the shoulder area of the tyres which now is responsible for the 33% pattern extension on each side.
