Ducati has chosen the Pirelli MT 60 RS as the supply tyre of choice for the new Scrambler. The same tyre would be fitted in size 110/80 R18 at the front and 180/55 R17 at the rear on the Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic versions of the motorcycle.
While the MT 60 RS is one of the longest lasting series with Pirelli, the company claims that the tyres had to be developed in particular for the Scramblers size and performance requirements.
With a chunky thread pattern on the tyres, aesthetically they would be suiting with the Scramblers on/offroad appeal while the chunky, variable thread design would provide a muti-pitch design. According to Pirelli this would decrease the land/sea ratio giving a great contact surface, thus increasing the stability.
Additionally, there would also be a reduction in braking distance, and better grip while leaned into corners. Also the multi-pitch thread design reduces greatly on the noise generated by the tyre over asphalt surface, specially when compared to the original MT 60 RS.
The new tyre also incorporates the use of new compounds. The front uses a new silica/carbon black compound that has been derived from the Diablo Rossa II while at the rear a high silica sport touring compound has been used to ensure good milage and grip.
