Deep down in every petrolheads heart there is a list of cars and motorcycles that has captivated them like nothing else ever has and they are the fuel to their passionate affair with the vast world of automobiles. That absolute awe that the iconic cars through the history are still able to create is a proof that these things on two and four wheels are more than just machines; they are the defining moments in the history of human passion, workmanship and engineering. This is where the artist, Fabian Oefner and his latest art work called as “Disintegrating II” combines the sheer captivation of iconic racing cars with an artistic touch that creates surreal exploded views of iconic racing cars into an intricately frozen portrait.
Born in 1984, the Swiss artist Fabian Oefner’s art forms are known to encourage the viewers in conceptualising new ways, and to accept the truth that art and science inform each other in tangible ways rather than existing on two opposite ends of the academic spectrum. This originated from the brilliant art works from Fabian Oefner’s visual expression of the invisible effects of the natural sciences and the properties of time that he believes has been the genesis of his photography, film and kinetic installations.
These surreal exploded views of iconic racing cars that you see here as said, are a part of Oefner’s show Disintegrating II, that is currently on at the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery Dubai and has been done by using scale models and some high level photoshopping. In what should be a dream collection for a scale model collector who loves to assemble his own models, Fabian Oefner’s work on these art projects starts as a sketch where he imagines how his subjects will look when blown apart in their appearance and how they will compliment the surroundings.
After which the scale model cars are then delicately disassembled to the desired levels, from then these miniature parts by parts are placed into their positions with the help of fine needles and strings. Throughout the process digital shots are constantly being taken of these pieces.
An art work of these finesse and extreme detailing requires immense concentration and patience to build and it showcases the dedication of the artist when you find out that the images you see here at your comfort while scrolling down at ease are a mind-bogglingly long effort where each of the image is the result of around two months of hard work which starts from model disassembly to composition.
To touch a master class to the finished work, Fabian Oefner deftly combines each part photographed with the rest of the car, creating art that is unmistakably familiar and yet undoubtedly original.
