When Dutch industrialist Sjef Vialle funded racing to promote his company, Vialle Autogas Systems, his namesake team entered four Alpine-Renault cars in the 1977 and 1978 FIA European Rallycross Championships. Off these, one particular was this Alpine-Renault A110 that is heading to the RM Sotheby’s Paris 2018 auction is considered as he ultimate development of the Alpine-Renault A110. This was due to the ultra-rare Renault-Gordini (that eventually became Renault Sport) Type 807-G4 engine, off which, only 2 were ever fitted to the Alpine-Renault A110. These engines with their twin Weber carburettors produced near 200 hp, which was quite a lot considering the extremely lightweight (sub 1Ton) of the Alpine A110. This 1974 Alpine-Renault A110 B ‘Team Vialle’ had its best competitive season in 1978 when driver Piet Kruythof, took victory at the Belgian and German rounds, while also taking the 1978 Dutch title in succession for the second year in a row.
