In the modern way of life, the phone is everything. It is a central device around which all our communications, media consumption and creation is based on. But it is also one of the most delicate and sensitive products that is carried around which can easily get affected by the elements of nature. So when heading out for a great adventure, the fear of damaging our favourite electronic device is one of the most consuming ones.
Thankfully, when it comes to the iPhones, there are quite a few options out there that would help one secure their device against water, dust and heavy shocks when the device is dropped from a height. Here are some of the best cases that are currently out there that would act as an armour for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S devices.
Lifeproof FRE For iPhone 6 and 6S
The FRE case by Lifeproof covers all the four ‘proofings’ (dust, water, snow and drop) that are needed to make the phone durable for all weather and terrain conditions. The case is waterproof for upto 2 meters (6.6 feet) and is resistant to any damage for upto 2 meters (6.6 feet). The FRE is made out of a polycarbonate shell that is then wrapped around synthetic rubber and silicon to give a soft touch in the hand. The case has a slim profile so that it can be used on a daily basis without too much discomfort.
Catalyst Rescue Ranger
The Catalyst Rescue gets a slight heft over the FRE case, coming in at 150.4 mm tall, 77 mm wide and 11.4 mm thick which is 1.1 mm x .8 mm x .2 mm larger than the FRE in the same dimensions. That said, in the design department the Rescue Ranger for the iPhone 6/6s gets a one up over the Lifeproof with its bumper-like design leaving the entire back completely clear. In terms of specifications, it gets a big bump in terms of waterproofing as compared to the FRE case with similar IP-68 certification to assure a sealed, water-tight body till up to 5 meters 16.4 feet underwater. And the MIL-SPEC 810G standard assures that the case can withstand drops of upto 6.6 feet with comfort.
Otterbox Defender Series
Before the iPhone was even first shown to the public, Otterbox was already making cases for Blackberry phones and other communication instruments. They are one of the oldest players in the game. And while it took them a bit to catch up to the new smart phone generation, even today, Otterbox makes some of the most rugged and reliable phone cases that are out there. The Defender Series comes with the company’s own “Approval for Aggressive Antics”, which means this is one case that is for those who like their adventure rough and tough … and with absolutely no boundaries. The Otterbox Defender comes with a multi-layer drop protection construction. It also comes with 100% dust protection and an inbuilt screen protector. That said, the Otterbox isn’t waterproof, which makes it a bit less capable to be used absolutely “everywhere”. The Defender Series cases come in a variety of colour and special editions, with options for great accessories such as the company’s Defender Series Holster.
Considering the Hitcase Pro only as a protective phone case for adventure is not enough to do justice to its overall capabilities. The Hitcase Pro iPhone case is an all-rounder that has the capability to become a personal do-it-all companion. The case apart from being 100% (as claimed by Hitcase) shockproof as well as waterproof, also has a long list of accessories available for it. These accessories range from chest mounts to tripod mounts, and from Superwide lens system to macro lenses, making the Hitcase Pro capable of shooting great footage of your adventure without the need of carrying an additional action camera and its accessories. The Hitcase Pro is on the expensive side as compared to the rest of the waterproof / shockproof iPhone cases, but has the versatility to become much more with just a few mounts and accessories.
Lifeproof NÜÜD Case
The NÜÜD case is similar in specs to the Lifeproof FRE and offers the same water protection and drop protection. However, in the design department, there are many changes, such as the transparent back design. But the most impressive feature that the NÜÜD comes with is the fully bare front where users can directly interact the the iPhone’s glass interface without any flimsy waterproof sheet that ruins the experience of using the iPhone’s responsive touchscreen. In dimensions, the NÜÜD is slightly larger than the FRE, but not so much that one would notice a significant difference.
