The legend of Valentino Balboni is as big as any Lamborghini that he tested and helped becoming a legend. Watch him drive one of its kind 1986 Countach QV Downdraft
Valentino Balboni, the ex-Lamborghini test driver has tested the Italian firm’s mad creations for four decades before they ever got into customer’s hands. When he retired from this dream job back in 2008, the company released the limited edition Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni as a grand gesture of gratitude towards his work. The car was in itself a perfect ode to this legendary man, with only rear wheel drive on offer, the car challenged its driver to squeeze every ounce of their talent and bravery to keep it at its full pitch. Just like Balboni would have wanted and loved.
However, Balboni’s story is much more interesting that just a madder version of a properly bonkers standard Lamborghini supercar. And that’s why it makes so much sense to hear it from the legend himself as he takes you through a brief look at his life. Oh Yes! To add to the epic-ness of this video created by Benjamin Bertucci, Balboni also takes a spin in a 1986 Lamborghini Countach QV Downdraft GLA12997, a car that was build specifically to the liking of the then CEO of Lamborghini, Patrick Mimran. The car was the most powerful Countach ever build and offered more than 470bhp when registered at Mimran’s hometown in Switzerland as new. The car was fully restored in 2015 by the ace Lamborghini specialist from US, Joe Sackey.
