Amongst other technologies at display at the Chicago International Motor Show the most headline grabbing was Victory Motorcycle’s virtual ride experience. Through this incredible mating of technology and machinery, users were able to get a first hand experience of the rider to Sturgis, South Dakota through the eyes of an Oculus Rift headset.
Victory Motorcycles partnered with Facebook owned virtual reality company, Oculus Rift to give motorcycle enthusiasts an immersive experience through which users can hop on to a Victory Gunner motorcycle with the headset on and experience a bike ride to Sturgis annual motorcycle rally.
The Oculus Rift VR (Virtual Reality) experience differs from other VR headsets by providing a unique 90-degree horizontal and 110-degree diagonal field of view enabling users to look around and completely immerse themselves in the 3D experience.
Victory Motorcycles claimed that while it is almost impossible to ride in the cold winter months, the VR would give riders a close-to-real riding experience by sitting on actual, real hardware with all all of the motorcycles controls connected to the 3D simulation. The riders will get virtual audio of the motorcycle’s engine through the headsets and would be able to lean the machine from side to side, giving a enhanced experience.
