Dorna WSBK Organisation and the FIM confirmed the addition of the new circuit in the 2015 calendar of WSBK Championship.

The Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand will host the FIM Superbike World Championship for the first time in its history between 20-22 March 2015. The local organiser and the DWO have entered into a three year contract for hosting the world championship on the track.

In a recent visit to the Chang Circuit, FIM and Dorna representatives stated that the homologation procedure was approved and the track and its facilities are ready to commence the world series. Thailand is the 24th country that has now come on the WSBK Championship map, representing the whole Asian area, and could be beneficial to the local market and motorsport fans along with the partners and sponsors.

The Chang International Circuit began construction in March 2013 and is spread over an area of 1,200 acres. The circuit includes two long straights out of which the longest one is 1 km in length and consists of 12 corners. The track is 4.554 kms in length and has a seating capacity of over 50,000.

Dorna WSBK Executive Director, Javler Alonso said: ” We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Thai Round in the calendar, as a clear evidence of our goal to reach new key markets for the motorcycle industry. Over the last two years the World SBK has accomplished to be present within important regions, such as the USA, Malaysia, Australia and Qatar with successful events, and we keep working in this direction.”
